7. About LONDON


London is a city in the north of England. In Roman times its name was Londinium, and 45,000 people lived there. Now, the population is about 7.7 million.
There are streets with the names of important people and important events in history: Trafalgar Square (Battle of Trafalgar), Victoria Street (Queen Victoria)…
The people of London are called Londoners or ‘Cockneys’. Famous Londoners include Charlie Chaplin, Arthur Conan Doyle. Charlie Chaplin was the famous actor , Arthur Conan Doyle was a famous writer of the Sherlock Holmes stories.
